London Heathrow - Los Angeles
Order of operation:
Arrive AT LEAST 30 minutes before your appointment time. Don't add a layer of stress by showing up late and disorganized.
Introductions and make yourself comfortable in the facility.
Qualification: We will start by qualifying yourself (the applicant) and the aircraft. I will collect my Practical Test Checklist that you downloaded and completed and use it to verify that you meet the requirements and are eligible to take the exam. I will also have you show me that your aircraft has its required inspections in the Airframe and Engine Logbook. Do not bring the AROW documents into the classroom. They should always stay in the aircraft. Completing the Practical Test Checklist will make this process go smoothly. It is a little embarrassing when I find an applicant is short solo time by 0.3 or any other requirement and then I am unable to administer the test.
To verify eligibility, I will need:
Completed Practical Test Checklist
Pilot Certificate
Medical Certificate
Government Issued photo ID
Knowledge Test Results
Pilot Logbook
Aircraft's Airframe and Engine Logbooks
Pre-Test Briefing
Ground Portion (Commonly referred to as the oral exam)
While some ACS 'Skill Elements' will be tested during the ground portion, the bulk of the ground portion will test the 'Knowledge and Risk Management Elements' of the ACS. The questions will be scenario based to test the applicant at the application and correlation level of learning. Questions involving rote memorization will not be emphasized.
Pre-Flight Briefing
15 minute break
Flight Portion:
While oral questioning will continue into the flight, the majority of this portion will be focused on the 'Skill Elements' of the ACS Tasks. Please do not call me and ask "What will my checkride be? or Where will we go during my checkride?" Per the FAA guidance, my Plan of Action must be unique to every applicant, scenario based, and change in response to how the applicant answers. That being said, your flight portion will remain within 30 miles of the departure airport and we will most likely visit at least one other airport.
